About me

You should know who you are talking to.

I am Natalie Madjidian, a licensed psychotherapist in Frankfurt am Main. My German title is Psychologische Psychotherapeutin: a psychologist licensed by the state to provide psychotherapy.

I have many years of clinical experience, with people in very different circumstances, often at the hardest point of their lives. What I learned in those years I bring with me: almost nothing is as stuck as it feels from the inside.

Where I come from

Many years in clinics. From November, a practice of my own.

I studied psychology and completed my training as a licensed psychotherapist (Psychologische Psychotherapeutin), specialising in cognitive behavioural therapy. Before and after qualifying, I worked in a number of clinics: long, intense days, a very wide range of conditions. I led groups and supported many people through the hardest phase of their lives.

Those years showed me how much is possible, even when it looks hopeless from the inside. But they also made clear to me what everyday clinic work always leaves too little of: time. That is why I am opening a practice of my own: smaller, quieter, with more room for the individual person.

Approbation (the German state licence) as a Psychologische Psychotherapeutin · qualification in cognitive behavioural therapy · member of the Psychotherapeutenkammer Hessen, the state chamber of psychotherapists · several years of clinical work · main areas of work: ADHD in adulthood, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders, burnout and exhaustion · treatment in German, English and Farsi.

What I believe

Therapy is not a repair job. Symptoms once made sense.

They were once an attempt at a solution, and at some point they became the problem themselves. Once we understand what something was good for, it becomes possible to change it.

I am also interested in the larger question: what really matters to you, and at what point you lost sight of yourself. Symptoms rarely disappear on their own. They disappear when your life has a direction again.

I understand therapy as an alliance. The two of us on the same side, looking at the same thing.

How I work

Structure here does not mean coldness.

I work in a cognitive behavioural way: with a clear goal, a thread running through it, and things for you to try out between sessions. We look at what you actually do, think and avoid, and change it step by step.

There is laughter in my sessions, silence is allowed, and you do not have to hold yourself together in here. You are also free to tell me when something about the way I work does not sit right with you. That is part of it. Here, honesty matters more to me than politeness.

Languages

German, English, Farsi, even for the things that are hard to say.

I work in German, English and Farsi. In therapy that is more than a service: feelings usually stay in the language you first had them in. If you have to talk about yourself in a second language, you are translating yourself the whole time, and losing exactly the shades of meaning the conversation is really about.

I grew up between two languages and two cultures. If Farsi is your language, or your family's: here you do not have to explain the things that are hard to explain.

Contact

You do not have to know where to begin. We can begin anyway.

Tell me roughly what it is about. I will get back to you within two working days. If I am not the right person for you, I will say so and suggest someone better suited.
